Constellations: Into The Queer Multiverse

June 20 at 9:30 PM

June 24 at 7:00 PM

We are the Vermilion Theater, a Massachusetts-registered non-profit theatre organization based in Boston. As an AAPI queer-led group, our members consist of students and community members from various colleges/universities along the East Coast. With intersecting minority identities, we are aware of the unique strength and challenges that come with being AAPI queer women in this world. Our mission is to produce Mandarin-English bilingual plays with English subtitles, with the hope to bridge language and cultural differences through theatre.

After several successful runs in Boston, Vermilion takes the show on tour. Presenting to our NYC audience: Constellations - Into the Queer Multiverse.

The play is about the love story between a beekeeper and an astrophysicist. Audience members will witness multiple versions of the same story as the couple travel through parallel universes. To our knowledge, our production is the first attempt to present this love story through a queer lens – featuring a lesbian couple. Interwoven throughout the play are discussions of coming out (in an Asian community), also of a heteronormative society (and the pressure of marriage as part of the traditional Asian values).

*Please note that this show includes topics of terminal illness and assisted suicide.

*Please note that this performance will be presented at the Tank's in-person performance space at 312 W 36th St. All attendees and artists will be required to display proof of two doses of an approved covid vaccination before being admitted to the space. Patrons will also be required to wear masks, when not eating or drinking.
