Anabel Lugones De León ( Creator & Performer)

Anabel Lugones De León (They/She) was born and raised in the Bronx. They are Dominican and Cuban. They are about to graduate from Hunter College with degrees in dance and theatre. Past theatre experiences at Hunter include: Cows of War, Proof, The Time of Your Life, and Antigone. Anabel played Coyote in QUINCE at The Bushwick Starr. Anabel is an activist, fighting for equality and combating climate change.

Izzy McClelland (Wardrobe)

Izzy McClelland, originally from Maine, is an NYC based costume designer, textile artist, and a recent graduate of FIT’s Fashion Design Program. Their recent design credits include: Como Puedo Amarme (The Tank), Die Anywhere Else (Hunter College), Shrek the Musical Jr (AMT Theater) and Archie’s Weird Parody (Theater Row). Description

A desperate escape for calmer waters in an ocean filled with sharks, ¿Cómo Puedo Amarme? dives inside the mind of a Non-Binary Cuban-Dominican, ELLE, amidst their ongoing fight with clinical depression. Through dance, spiritual encounters and scar-filled memories, ELLE, attempts to outswim a storm of sharks to find peace within themselves or drown in familial waters.

This one-person, devised project is proudly presented in Spanish.

Description

It’s an average day for scenic cruise skipper Finley, until… her boat gets attacked by a shark. Or does it? A piece about what it is like to break out of a stereotype and begs the question – what do you really know about sharks?

TW: Representation of guns, gun violence, loud noises, cursing, animal death/cruelty, flashing lights, splash zone

*Please note that this performance will be presented at the Tank's in-person performance space at 312 W 36th St. All attendees and artists will be required to display proof of two doses of an approved covid vaccination before being admitted to the space. Patrons will also be required to wear masks, when not eating or drinking.
