Laure (Bay Area Playwright’s Festival Finalist) is a play by Mya Ison in response to the painting “Olympia” by Manet (1865), imagining that the Black model, Laure, was not erased from the archive. By adapting themes from the “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde (1890), this play creates a three-dimensional world through its four characters, and engages with agency, gaze, and the power of the erotic. It will be presented as a staged reading directing by Genevieve Juras & Julian X.
