DarkFest

Calling artists of every discipline: The Tank is seeking submissions for its sixth annual DarkFest, August 8-11, 2019.

In the spirit of being green, The Tank is turning off the lights for a weekend of programming. With no lights from the grid, The Tank is celebrating innovative performance that utilizes self-sufficient and alternative energy sources. Whether you use batteries or a treadmill to power a generator or flashlights or glowsticks, we’re looking for original works that can be performed independent of our usual reliance on electricity.

Pieces can be 10-90 minutes – shorter pieces will appear on programs together.

Proposals can be for showings of work at any stage of development, from a reading or work-in-progress to a fully-staged show.

LadyFest

Calling artists of every discipline: The Tank is now accepting submissions for its fourth annual LadyFest!

LadyFest will feature new work by women-identifying artists working in New York! Every person participating on your team needs to identify as a lady – writers, directors, choreographers, dancers, composers, musicians, puppeteers, techs, stage managers, everyone. We’re looking for new plays, choreography, storytelling, films, concerts – you name it. If you have a male character in your show, let’s get a lady for it!

Hollywood has remained at 4% lady directors for decades. Even women speak about increasing representation as a difficult task. We disagree – ladies are out there in all disciplines, in all roles, doing incredible work that needs to be seen.

Come make some noise and make some art!!

And the term lady is an ironic nod to the many societal restrictions formerly – and all too often still – placed on women, dictating behavior and nobility and “politeness” and economic restrictions and other nonsense. If you’re interested in blowing up these expectations, flying in the face of traditional forms of lady-ness, and expanding the conversation about what it means to be a woman, please send us a proposal!

Proposals can be for showings of work at any stage of development, from a reading or work-in-progress to a fully-staged show. Seeking proposals for evening-length work or shows that run 45-100 minutes.

Performance dates: August 13-25, 2019
