About The Show

xyz nyc is a new approach to dance-making in New York City. A cross between a choreographic laboratory and a reality tv game show, every month dancers and choreographers are randomly grouped together, and within a week create new dances that are performed before an audience. A guest judge gives feedback to each of the choreographers, and the audience votes on their favorite dance. A winner is crowned at the end of the show, winning fame and glory and the chance of developing their new dance into a 2 night run at the Tank.

Featuring Guest Judges Bill Young and Colleen Thomas

And featuring Guest Artist Bill Young premiering a new piece (NYC premiere!) called Teaser, created for dancer Christian Allen

Suzan D. Polat is a dance artist, based in Brooklyn, New York. She is in the process of developing a theory and a practice rooted in the concept of the talisman.

Gabrielle Giordano is a dance and improv artist currently residing in her hometown of Brooklyn, New York. She began dancing as a young girl and has followed her passion for creative expression ever since. She attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts & Music and Art, and continued her higher education at University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a major in Modern Dance Performance (BFA 2013). While Gabrielle was living in Philadelphia she was awarded RawArtist Philadelphia’s Performing Artist of the Year 2012 for a performance of improvisational score within a club atmosphere. Expanding her mind to the possibilities of what can be defined as DANCE and ART has lead her to creating many innovate pieces like "headSPACE" and "Solo." Through creating work with painters, video artists, fibers artists, and musicians, Gabrielle has pushed the boundaries of dance to create experiential fantasies. Gabrielle has performed pieced by Helen Simoneau, Netta Yerushalmy and Curt Haworth. She is currently working on dance video shorts that examine emotion vs. environment.

Jessica Myers: During her five years in New York City, she has worked with artists Jen Harmon, Kristin Swiat, and The Odyssey Works Project. She graduated with a BFA from The Boston Conservatory, where she had the opportunity to perform with the company of Bill T. Jones, and worked with Yuriko on a restaging of Martha Graham's "Steps in the Street." In 2014, she attended the Bessie Lab at New York Live Arts with John Jasperse. This year, she premiered Softgaze at LaGuardia Performing Arts Center as a part of Mare Nostrum Elements Emerging Choreographers Series.
