About the Show

Conceived and written by Genevieve Simon

Developed with and directed by Claire Edmonds

Music by Zak Houston and Marlena Mack

Movement by Hayley Palmer

Three women fail to get the message across. Plastic animals come to life. Teenagers get left out of history books. But we’re gonna find that yellow Frisbee if it kills us.

From The Functional Shoes comes a glimpse into three different worlds and the strange threads that bind them. You’re gonna live it up. You’re gonna feel weird about it.

There’s no more time. Stop making sense. Join the party.

Featuring Maribel Martinez, Marlena Mack, Zak Houston, and Genevieve Simon

About the Team

The Functional Shoes is an award-winning pop-up theatre company based in New York City. We use live music and original plays to create nonlinear stories on stage. We enjoy using tools like aerial silks, shadow puppets, roller skates, sidewalk chalk, kazoos, face paint, and animal masks in our work. Our plays are surreal, absurdist, magical realism adventures. We focus on the experience of insiders and outsiders in different spaces, and are particularly interested in creating work that grapples with gender roles and norms. We want to tell stories that bring people from the sidelines into the spotlight. 2017 Producer’s Pick of the Fringe & Critic’s Pick: Romeo + Juliet + Anybodys (Cincinnati Fringe Festival)
