public affairs

The Tank opens its doors to progressive public affairs and community-oriented events, that promote free expression, new ideas and civic engagement. Guest speakers and panels, community discussions and presentations and inclusive celebrations invite the public to make The Tank a modern Town Square where new, provocative and even conflicting ideas are given center stage. Perkins 28: Testimony from the Secret Court Files of 1920 documents the testimony from 1920,
when Harvard University convened a secret court to interview, charge and discipline students who were suspected of homosexuality.

In 1920, Harvard University convened a secret court to interview, charge and discipline students suspected of being homosexual. Thirty-seven men testified before the court, including a tutor, an assistant professor, numerous Harvard students and several Boston men. After two weeks of testimony, eight Harvard undergraduates were forced to withdraw, one of whom committed suicide. Based on actual testimony and court documents, Perkins 28: Testimony from the Secret Court Files of 1920 dramatizes the closed-room trials, nine intense episodes of testimony before the court. Filmed in April 2008 at the Guesthouse of the Monastery of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist in Cambridge, MA.

Celebrate Barack Obama’s historic inauguration with Creative Destruction as they remount their hit show OBAMA DRAMA: A POLITICAL THEATRICAL SPECATACULAR! with a special Inauguration Celebration, featuring a new world-premiere play from Marcus Gardley. Originally commissioned and performed in October 2008, OBAMA DRAMA is a weekend of world-premiere short plays inspired by the man, the myth(s) and the Michelle of the 44th President of the United States. As the 2008 election heated up, Creative Destruction asked playwrights to dramatize what most intrigued them about Barack Obama. The result was an immediate, powerful look at the man who embodied the hopes and dreams of a nation ready for change. For three nights, a cast of 18 actors played to sold-out houses and standing ovations as a community came together in the hopes of change. Twelve days later, on November 4, 2008, Obama was elected and history was made.

Grab front row seats to history January 15-17 as we celebrate Obama’s historic victory, Inauguration, and Presidency. Stay and play with the artists of Creative Destruction at their “Barack the Inauguration” Party following the show on Friday, January 16th. Join us in celebrating Change coming to Washington.
