BENT2004 Gallery Artists-in-Residence Information

Overview
During the week of April 3-10 we will have three artists-in-residence in the spaceworks gallery @ The Tank. These artists will come to the gallery with a plan and their materials, but will create their entire bent artistic works live over the course of the week. The artists will work during gallery hours only, providing the public a complete look at their artistic process. Each artist will be happy to take time to discuss their work and in some cases have you get involved with their projects. There will be a final gallery reception/closing the evening of Saturday April 10 from 6-8pm. At that time final work will be on display and the artists will be present.

In addition to the three creations provided by our artists-in-residence, the gallery will also have a public work/play area where gallery viewers can try their hand at bending toys provided (or bring your own!). Expert benders, including but not limited to our three artists-in-residence, will be on-hand throughout the week to help you get started in this amazingly easy and fun process. For more formal workshops, please see our festival schedule. All workshops are free and open to the public.

The BENT2004 Artists-in-Residence:

Arius Blaze
A week-long documentation of the mess that circuit bending creates - as well as the documentation and creation of a completely improvised installation. "circuit bent mindfield" implies an escape from the instrument - the chaos that surrounds the process of creating order. The meditation centered in a war zone

Peter Edwards is creating a large circuit bent orchestra with all instruments controlled by a custom-made mechanical sequencer.

Douglas Repetto
In a post-human future, well-designed human-era artifacts might continue to operate in the absence of their creators. Given sufficient longevity, such artifacts would ultimately be integrated into the local ecosystem, and could potentially develop various kinds of relationships (symbiotic, parasitic, neutral) with other local organisms. "One day we will be mysterious" is an attempt to begin exploring this idea via worm-activated office equipment and other electronic human artifacts.

Gallery Hours are 1-6pm each day of the festival, and during all evening programming.
