how to get involved at the tank

The Tank began in 2003 as an entirely volunteer run organization, and it remains almost completely volunteer run today. We simply couldn't keep our doors open seven nights a week without our dedicated team of volunteer staff.

***WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR INTERNSHIPS FOR FALL 2010***

If you are excited about the arts and looking for a place where your time and energy will make a difference, read on about opportunities to get involved!

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:

Internships at The Tank offer the unique opportunity to get involved in the emerging arts scene of New York. As an intern you will have the chance to learn in depth about the inner workings of a young, non-profit arts space and will be exposed to an extensive pool of artists, performers, writers, producers and directors across disciplines.

ARTS ADMIN AND FUND-RAISING INTERN

The Arts Admin and Fund-Raising will work as the bridge between the General Manager and Publicist by handling press releases, website listings, and archives. The Media Intern will also learn about grant-making and membership, as they relate to programming and The Tank's core mission. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit arts administration. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate who works well independently, with exceptional attention to detail and outstanding writing skills. A commitment of 10-12 hours per week (flexible scheduling options) for a minimum of 12 weeks is required.
NOTE: Periodic attendance of Tank events is additionally encouraged, and all interns receive free admission.

THEATER AND LIVE MUSIC TECH INTERN

Theater and Live Music Tech interns will help set up and maintain The Tank's performance spaces and equipment. Duties will include preparing and striking the stage, sound system, and lights for individual Tank performances, setting up a live web stream of Tank events, and organizing equipment that is not currently in use. This candidate should have strong organizational skills, be interested in broadening their knowledge of concert production, and should have a passion for the arts. Some experience with the technology used in theater and concert production is required. A commitment of 2-3 nights per week is required.

HOUSE MANAGEMENT INTERN

As house manager, interns will be expected to oversee the activities of each show the Tank hosts. These tasks will include accommodating artists and performers, managing concessions, organizing the paperwork and finances of the show, and assuring all functions of the theater operate smoothly. Interns will be expected to work an average of 2-3 days a week, usually in the evenings. We can be very flexible with your schedule.

If you are interested in applying, please email resume and cover letter in Word or PDF format to Suzan Eraslan at suz@thetanknyc.org. Please be sure to indicate the internship you are applying for in the subject line of your email. Intern applications are accepted year-round for fall and spring semesters as well as summer terms.

** Please note that Tank internships are unpaid. However, college credit can be arranged and interns receive free admission to all Tank shows. **
